A Coggins test is a blood test and screens for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA). This test is required if you plan to take your horse out of the country and also some horse shows may request it. The test needs to be done within 180 days prior to your travel to USA and your show may have specific time regulations, as well, but this may vary from show-to-show.
Your horse's blood sample must be taken by a Coggins accredited veterinarian. We have multiple veterinarians, at our clinic, who are accredited. There is extensive paperwork to be filled out, and the test is sent away to an external lab and may take 2-3 weeks for results to come back: so please ensure you have left enough time for this delay.
I wanted to thank you again for your help last Friday. There are many animals on my farm. I love them all but I was particularly fond of little Gabby. It was only a couple weeks ago we saw her rolling in the dirt and so delighted with herself and I remember how she loved to lay on Jeff's chair and bat the tail of our other cat as she walked by. I had hoped she could have experienced more of these joys in her life.
Your skill in diagnosing and presenting her case and your compassion in helping me understand what was best for Gabby was very much appreciated.
