Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a drug-free and painless treatment that improves the body’s healing process.

Since ancient times, acupuncture has been a mainstay in Chinese medicine to boost wellness and treat a wide variety of illnesses in people. In recent years, it has also been a go-to treatment in veterinary medicine to help our loyal companions. This service is available for all eligible dogs, cats and other patients here at South Shore Veterinary Services. Please don’t hesitate to give us a call at 902-543-5602 if you would like to learn more.

What is acupuncture used for in pets?

Your veterinarian may suggest or prescribe acupuncture if your pet has been diagnosed with arthritis, inflammation of the joints or other body parts, hip dysplasia, nerve damage, digestion problems, respiratory disease, chronic pain and more. It may also be effective as part of your pet’s post-operative care or to help them heal faster from injuries.

Can acupuncture help pets with behavioural problems?

Every pet is unique and may respond differently to the treatment. That being said, one of the possible benefits of acupuncture is helping to reduce anxiety, aggression and other behavioural issues. We find that it has a soothing effect on many of our patients and it is common for them to fall asleep during treatment.

How much does pet acupuncture cost?

Cost will vary depending on the size of the treatment area, number of sessions needed and your pet’s specific situation. Please feel free to give us a call and schedule a consultation for the most accurate estimate.
